The 3" x 3" FIG 1502 Pneumatic Actuated Plug Valve is a mission-critical safety and flow control component engineered for extreme high-rate oilfield operations. Serving as an Emergency Shutdown (ESD) valve, this heavy-duty unit is positioned directly on the wellhead, frac tree, or primary flowline. In the event of a catastrophic pressure spike, downstream line rupture, or hazardous gas leak, the pneumatic actuator allows operators to instantaneously shut in the well from a safe, remote distance, entirely removing personnel from the "line of fire."

This specific valve is fully certified for Sour Service (NACE MR0175), meaning its forged alloy steel body and internal components have undergone rigorous metallurgical treatments to resist Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC). This makes it safe for deployment in deadly Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) environments where standard carbon steel valves would rapidly turn brittle and fail.

Combining a full-bore 3-inch fluid path to maximize flowback rates with a massive 15,000 PSI Cold Working Pressure (CWP) rating, this automated plug valve delivers uncompromising performance. The robust pneumatic actuator provides the massive torque required to cycle the plug against extreme differential pressures in milliseconds, ensuring a positive, bubble-tight seal exactly when it matters most.

Features & Benefits

  • Remote ESD Capability: The pneumatic actuator provides rapid, automated closure during emergencies, allowing operators to shut in high-pressure flowlines remotely from a control panel or doghouse.

  • NACE MR0175 Sour Service: Metallurgically treated to safely handle corrosive wellbore fluids and lethal H2S (sour gas) without falling victim to sulfide stress cracking or hydrogen embrittlement.

  • 15,000 PSI Pressure Containment: Heavy-duty forged alloy construction and standard 3-inch FIG 1502 hammer union connections guarantee secure, leak-free operation under extreme frac and flowback pressures.

  • High-Volume 3" Flow: The full 3-inch bore eliminates pressure bottlenecks, making it ideal for ultra-high-rate flowback, extreme drill-outs, and heavy fluid transfer.

  • Low-Maintenance Sealing: Features a precision-machined plug and heavy-duty elastomer inserts that provide a reliable seal even when closing against abrasive frac sand and milled debris.

Specifications & Technical Details

Service Application H2S Environments, Flowback, ESD Systems, Well Testing

Applications

The 3" Pneumatic ESD Plug Valve is a mandatory safety requirement for modern, high-pressure flowback and well testing operations. It is installed as the primary surface safety valve (SSV) on frac trees, immediately upstream of trash catchers, and on highly automated choke manifold skids. It is especially critical in offshore operations and onshore fields with known H2S concentrations.

Quality Assurance

Manufactured and tested in strict accordance with API 6A and NACE MR0175 specifications. The pressure-containing body undergoes comprehensive non-destructive testing (NDT), including ultrasonic (UT) and magnetic particle (MPI) inspections. The entire valve and actuator assembly is hydrostatically tested to 22,500 PSI and stroke-tested to guarantee rapid, fail-safe actuation under maximum working pressure.
