The 2" FIG 1502 Choke Saver for Sour Service is a specialized, heavy-duty sacrificial flowline component engineered to absorb the extreme turbulence and localized erosion that occurs immediately downstream of a choke valve in highly corrosive H2S environments. Built with integral 2-inch FIG 1502 hammer union connections and rated for 15,000 PSI (15K CWP), this robust unit is an essential safety and cost-saving asset for any high-pressure sour gas well testing, flowback, or choke manifold system.
When high-pressure well fluids pass through the restrictive orifice of a choke valve, it causes a massive pressure drop, resulting in extreme fluid velocity and chaotic turbulence. This high-velocity turbulence rapidly erodes the inner walls of the iron placed immediately downstream of the choke. The Choke Saver is designed with extra-thick walls to act as a sacrificial "target" for this destructive energy, taking the brunt of the wear to effectively protect your expensive choke assemblies and manifold blocks from premature washout.
Operating in sour gas (H2S) environments exposes this critical iron to the severe risk of Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC). To guarantee safety and compliance, this Choke Saver is manufactured from specialized, corrosion-resistant steel alloys that are strictly heat-treated to controlled maximum hardness levels, meeting or exceeding all NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 standards.
Features & Benefits
-
Sour Service Compliant: Manufactured from highly specialized, erosion-resistant alloys and heat-treated to strict maximum hardness levels in full compliance with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for safe H2S operation.
-
Sacrificial Wear Protection: Deliberately designed to absorb extreme downstream turbulence, extending the operational lifespan of your expensive sour service chokes and manifold iron.
-
Cost-Effective Maintenance: Significantly reduces equipment replacement costs; replacing a sacrificial Choke Saver is vastly more economical than replacing a complete NACE-compliant choke assembly or manifold cross.
-
Heavy-Duty Construction: Built from extra-thick-walled forged alloy steel specifically selected for superior resistance to both abrasive erosion and chemical corrosion.
-
Extreme Pressure Rating: Built to safely withstand 15,000 PSI cold working pressure in aggressive and hazardous sour gas environments.
-
Integral FIG 1502 Connections: Features standard 2-inch FIG 1502 hammer union ends (Male x Female) for fast, secure integration directly behind the choke valve.

Applications
The 2" FIG 1502 Choke Saver for Sour Service is a critical protective component for hazardous, high-pressure surface operations. Typical applications include direct installation downstream of adjustable and positive chokes in sour gas well testing packages, H2S frac-flowback iron setups, choke and kill manifolds, and production manifolds where extreme pressure drops and corrosive, sand-heavy fluids cause severe localized erosion.
Quality Assurance
All our Sour Service Choke Savers undergo rigorous metallurgical testing and strict quality control processes. The forged bodies are verified for proper hardness levels to ensure maximum resistance to Sulfide Stress Cracking. Each unit undergoes strict hydrostatic pressure testing and ultrasonic wall-thickness verification prior to shipment to ensure absolute safety and structural integrity. Full material traceability and NACE certification are available.
